Wise, Wonderful Women of West Virginia

These wonderful women have been divided into two series, a STEM Role Model/Advocate Series to showcase female pioneers and a Mentor Series to acknowledge women championing STEM day-to-day. Following NCWIT’s promising-practice our “Role Modeling” is less interactive than “Mentoring”, which involves interpersonal communication and is usually in the context of an ongoing relationship. In contrast, Role Modeling involves only demonstrating that a particular status is possible to achieve and how it can be achieved. As research shows observers are most likely to compare themselves with someone they perceive as similar both demographically and in ability-related performance, we request both STEM Role Model/Advocate and Mentors to communicate information about their own background, experiences, and concerns.

If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else for the W4V series, please download the Model Release and W4V Template Form and submit via email to contact@empowersusa.org for consideration.
